What your scrap car estimate includes

Our calculator uses a weight-based pricing model — the same approach used by major UK metal recyclers. Here's what goes into your estimate:

01

Base metal value

Your vehicle's kerb weight (in tonnes) × the current scrap metal rate per tonne. This is the core of your scrap value — heavier cars are worth more.

02

Alloy wheel adjustment

If your car has alloy wheels, we add approximately £52 (4 × £13 over steel value). You can confirm your wheel type after seeing the initial estimate.

03

Catalytic converter / DPF

Our all-in scrap metal rate already includes the value of the catalytic converter (petrol) or diesel particulate filter (diesel). No separate calculation needed.

04

Condition adjustments

If the engine doesn't run (−£40), the vehicle doesn't roll (−£30), or there's a locking wheel nut without the key (−£20), the price is adjusted. You can update these after your initial estimate.

This is an estimate — get an exact quote

The calculator gives you a genuine estimated scrap value based on your vehicle's real kerb weight and current metal rates. However, the final price may be adjusted based on:

  • ◆The actual condition of the vehicle when we inspect it on collection
  • ◆Whether the catalytic converter or DPF is intact (missing or gutted cats reduce value)
  • ◆Any parts that have already been removed (engine, gearbox, panels)
  • ◆Fluctuations in the scrap metal rate between your estimate and collection

We always confirm the final price before collection — never after. If the condition doesn't match what you described, we'll tell you the adjusted price before we load the vehicle, so there are no surprises.

Scrap car value calculator FAQs

How does the scrap car value calculator work?

Enter your vehicle registration and postcode. We look up your vehicle's kerb weight from DVLA data, multiply it by the current scrap metal rate per tonne, and adjust for alloy wheels, condition, and our competitive premium. You get an instant estimated scrap value in seconds — no email or phone number required to see the price.

Is the scrap car estimate accurate?

The estimate is based on your vehicle's actual kerb weight and the current scrap metal rate, so it's a genuine reflection of what your car is worth as scrap. The final price may be adjusted if the engine doesn't run, the vehicle doesn't roll, or there are locking wheel nuts without the key. We confirm the final price before collection — never after.

Do I need to pay to use the calculator?

No. The scrap car value calculator is completely free. You don't need to enter an email address or phone number to see your estimated scrap value. If you want to proceed with collection, you'll enter your phone number so we can arrange a pickup time.

What information do I need to use the calculator?

Just your vehicle registration number and your postcode. That's it. We look up the vehicle details (make, model, weight) automatically. You don't need your V5C logbook, MOT certificate, or any other documents to get an estimate.

Can I calculate the scrap value of any car?

The calculator works for most petrol and diesel cars, vans, and light commercial vehicles. Hybrid and electric vehicles require specialist handling for the HV battery, so we provide a manual quote over the phone instead. If we can't look up your registration, call us and we'll quote you in 60 seconds.

What if my car's scrap value seems low?

Scrap value is primarily determined by vehicle weight and the current scrap metal rate. If your car is light (under 1,000 kg), the metal value will be lower. However, factors like alloy wheels and an intact catalytic converter can add value. If you think the estimate doesn't reflect your vehicle, call us — we'll review it manually and may be able to offer more.
